What are lightweight construction blocks ?
Pumice lightweight blocks are used in the construction of lightweight buildings especially for their insulating properties.
Lightness
The blocks manufactured in our factory are one of the lightest construction materials available on the market. For example, product STAR-LTD 19 has a dry weight of 6.5 kg, with a density of 500 kg/m3. Due to this lightness it offers a high level of economy for construction sites. (about 17-20% for iron).
The lightness of these blocks comes from being made from the lightest pumice stone available in the world, the calibration and the cement - pumice mixture ratio, and the technical process to which they are subjected.
For example : In a building of 5 floors, 10 appartments, the deadweight of the structure is 40% less than that made from classic construction materials.
Strength
Due to the components in these blocks, they have a very high resistance against earthquakes and fire, creating a civilised and safe environment. They have a good level of compressive strength and comply to the CE and TSE standards.
Safety
Due to its lightness, high elasticity and resistance, these blocks are particularly indespensible for structures built in seismically active areas.
Effective Heat Insulation
The coutless air pockets in the pumice stone itself provides a very good heat insulation. The heat conduction co-efficient of the blocks is (lh) 0.18 w/mK. This co-efficient is 0.45 and over for bricks. As the heat conduction co-efficient decreases, the heat insulation capacity of the material increases. The high heat insulation means that less energy need be spent to heat the inside of buildings. A saving of up to 35% in comparison to classic buildings can be seen with pumice blocks.
Time Saving
The size, shape and lightweight of these blocks ( 12.5 blocks complete 1 m2 ) means quicker wallmaking and plastering.
Fire resistence
The natural resistence of pumice to heat goes up to 1250 oC. Therefore providing a natural fire resistant product in the manufactured block, an important safety factor for all buildings.
Plaster adhering and Cracking on walls
Another characteristic of pumice blocks is their ability to adher well with classic sand mortar or mortar made from pumice granules. Plaster made using pumice granules offers a higher level of heat insulation to the wall surface. Walls made using pumice blocks will not swell or crack.
Practical
Pumice blocks can be cut easily and without falling apart. No special equipment is needed for this operation.
Healthy and Environmentally Friendly
Pumice, a 100% natural, volcanic rock, is environmentally friendly. Pumice blocks contain no material which may be harmful to nature. Due to the natural aggregate within the blocks, the walls are able to breathe and protect the natural humidity level of the interior. This prevents high drying of the atmosphere inside which can lead to respiratory problems.
Water Absorption
The water absorption of pumice blocks made in our factory complies with CE and TSE standards.
Sound Insulation and Acoustics
As these blocks have a high sound insulation value, the interior of the building is protected from external noise. In buildings where acoustics are important, the blocks' capacity to absorb sound, eliminates all echos.
